shahnameh

This piece is inspired by Rostam, one of the most iconic heroes of the Shahnameh, a figure who represents strength, protection, and the enduring spirit of Persian mythology. Rather than portraying him as a historical character, the illustration focuses on his symbolic presence  the weight of armor, the animal motifs, and the quiet intensity that define him as a legendary guardian.

The work is part of a larger concept imagining Shahnameh characters as a deck of cards, where each figure becomes an emblem of a different human quality — power, fate, sacrifice, or wisdom. In this context, Rostam appears as a central “card,” embodying resilience and heroic identity.

Through ornamental framing and stylized detail, the piece blends traditional Persian visual language with a contemporary illustrative approach, allowing ancient mythology to exist within a modern storytelling format.
